Mark Taylor, composer, Nov. 30, 2009 at 8pm – Theatre I Mark Taylor In 2001 Mark retired as chief arranger for The United States Army Band ("Pershing's Own"), where he was on staff for 24 years. During that time, he composed extensively for the Army Blues, writing all of the material for their album A New Beginning and much of the material for Scream Machine. His arrangements and compositions have been performed by the US Army Blues throughout the world including concerts at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland. His latest project is “The Taylor/Fidyk Big Band” which is co-led with Washington, DC drummer Steve Fidyk. They released their CD “ A Perfect Match” in 2002 to rave reviews. Mike Tomaro is the Director of Jazz Studies at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. This saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, composer, arranger, and educator earned his B.S. Degree in Music Education from Duquesne University, and his M.A. Degree in Performance from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Mike is a former member of the Army Blues jazz ensemble. He has nationally released recordings under his own name that showcase his talents as both performer and writer – "Forgotten Dreams", "Dancing Eyes", and "Home Again", and has been featured on many others in both capacities. |
